Pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 46-707(2), the Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District (MNNRD) hereby provides notice that a hearing shall be held on November 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., at the MNNRD office at 526 E. 1st St. in Valentine, NE.

The MNNRD has placed a temporary stay on new groundwater irrigated acres. The temporary stay on new groundwater irrigated acres took effect on June 29, 2015 and will continue through December 25, 2015. The purpose of the hearing is to take testimony for consideration in determining whether or not to: (1) make the stay permanent, (2) extend the stay, or (3) discontinue the stay.              

Any interested person may appear at the hearing and present written or oral testimony concerning the temporary stay. Individuals with disabilities may request auxiliary aids and service necessary for participation by contacting the MNNRD office or by phone at 402-376-3241 by November 4, 2015. Testimony or other evidence relevant to the purposes of the hearing may also be submitted in writing to the MNNRD at 526 E. 1st St Valentine, NE 69201 or by electronic mail to the MNNRD at mnnrd@qwestoffice.net by 3:00 p.m., November 9, 2015.

At the June 8, 2015 Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District Board of Director's Meeting, the Board     approved a 6-month Temporary Stay on the addition of new groundwater irrigated acres, in compliance with Neb. Rev. Stat. 46-707(2).  The Board also requested that the Nebraska Department of Natural          Resources implement a similar 6-month Stay on new surface water irrigated acres. These temporary          Stays went into effect on June 29, 2015.  During the 6-month Stays, the MNNRD and NDNR will hold a        joint public hearing to take comments on future use of ground and surface water within the MNNRD.        If you have questions about the Stays please contact the MNNRD office at 402-376-3241.


Water Quality Cost-Share Sign Up


The Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District will be accepting applications for its Water Quality Cost-Share Program through Thursday, December 31, 2015.  Items available for cost-share include surge valves, low pressure nozzles, and converting siphon tubes to gated pipes, soil moisture sensors. Cost-share is limited to 50% up to $2,500 per application. Cost-share for Soil Moisture Sensors is limited to 50% up to $1,000 per application.  Applications are available at the MNNRD office in Valentine, or at the Valentine and Ainsworth NRCS offices.  Any questions regarding this program should be directed to Tim Storm at the MNNRD Valentine office (402) 376-3241.
